Roller Blinds

Roller blinds can be made from fabric or waterproof materials. Fabric blinds can be dusted using a mild cleaning item to remove the individual marks. These can be also be vacuumed with a brush attachment to get rid of surface dust. In case of waterproof materials, use a damp cloth to wipe them from top to bottom and clean both sides and fix it when it is completely dry. Check with the maker’s guidelines, if you think that fabric blinds need a complete wash. Again, use mild laundry detergent and warm water to remove stain. Rinse with cold water and let it dry completely before installing back at the window.

Vertical Blinds

Use micro fibre cloth or duster to remove dust particles from a vertical blind. Start from top of each slat downwards. You can remove stains or marks from it, using a suitable spray or mild cleaning product.

If the blinds are made from vinyl or aluminium, simply clean those with a sponge dipped in mild soapy hot water and rinse them with cold water.  The cleaning method largely depends on the materials used in the blinds. So, go through the manual and choose only recommend products, if you wish for a more thorough clean. Keeping their instructions in mind, it is possible to wash certain types of fabric vertical blinds in a washing machine using appropriate detergent and washing cycle as described by the manufacturer.

Roman Blinds

These are quite difficult to clean over other types; if the lining and blinds are made from two different materials, it is better to give them for dry cleaning as washing two different fabrics aren’t too good. Avoid spraying the cleaning product directly onto your window; pull roman blinds far away from window and spray cleaning product on small cloth and then start the cleaning. It is said so to avoid contacting the fabric of roman blind and window from damaging. Follow manufacturer’s instructions and choose which type of product should be used for cleaning.

Venetian and Wooden Blinds

The cleaning procedure for Venetian and wood blinds are quite similar; you need to use a damp cloth to remove stains from aluminium or plastic blinds. You can also use anti-static tumbler dryer sheet to remove the dust particles.

Though wood and venetian blinds are easier to clean, they need regular attention in terms of maintenance. Avoid using water when cleaning wood or faux wood blinds as water can create crack or warp. Take measures to maintain their freshness and clean them regularly so that they will adore your window for years to come.

Ensure that you stick to manufacturer’s cleaning product and maintenance recommendation to help your window blinds to come for a longer time.
